"As soon as the representative showed me the Sylvie Collection, I liked what I saw. It offers a product that is very attractive and well-made. The styling is modern – it’s the new look – with that extra bit of uniqueness that makes it stand out from competitors’ merchandise. I knew Spectrum was a quality-oriented company, so I was quick to jump on the collection.
As a longtime jeweler, I look at the workmanship, which is sometimes a lost art in today’s world. There’s more to value than the price tag and how big a piece is. The Sylvie Collection is not skimpy merchandise. The mountings are nice and heavy; the finish is superb; and the diamond work all looks good. I look for little things like that, and besides the great styling, the line is simply made well.
The styling and quality of the Sylvie Collection have really appealed to our customers, although, in this challenging year, not all have been able to afford it. "We expanded our store and have a new bridal area, so we were looking to add smaller – but more distinct – collections to it. I liked the finesse of the Sylvie collection. It’s a lighter, petite, more feminine-looking approach to wedding and engagement rings that adds a wonderful platform to a center diamond. It captures lot of intricacy and a more individualized signature particularly well.
When we received the mailing from Spectrum on the Sylvie collection, it immediately caught our eye. When we got to the Las Vegas show, we marched right over there and made them show us the line! As soon as our salespeople saw the collection, they loved it – how it’s designed; how it looks; how it feels on the hand; what it does to a center stone, the featured element.
The customer reaction to has been strong in a short period of time. We have some great lines in our bridal area, but I spend a lot of time behind the Spectrum Sylvie collection.
As far as customer service, Spectrum has been delightful. That’s a huge part of why we choose a line. Our interaction with them has been great on orders, reorders and marketing materials. They’re really down-to-earth people and it’s easy to partner with them.

“Our philosophy here as an independent selling higher-quality merchandise is focusing on our customers and their needs, and providing good value. So I expect the same from the vendors we do business with.
Spectrum, more than any other vendor we work with, exceeds our expectations over and over again. It’s obviously a company philosophy, but whenever we ask our rep for something, the answer is always ‘Yes, we’ll get it done for you. We’ll make it happen.’ I don’t ever recall getting a ‘no’ from Spectrum. I try to instill that same mentality in my sales associates. If you can find and maintain a ‘yes’ mentality, you’ll be successful.
It may be harder to say ‘yes’ than ‘no,’ but Spectrum makes it happen. For example, if a client needs a 3-carat tennis bracelet in white gold in four days, and I only have yellow, all I have to do is call them. Even if there isn’t one in stock, they’ll make it and get it to me so I can meet my customer’s timetable.
Spectrum is on the front end of trends and has the right product at the right time. They always seem to know what the next ‘hot’ item might be. For example, when Journey jewelry came out they had a complement of nice pieces within weeks – they reacted to the market almost instantaneously. When your clients are walking in the door and saying, ‘I saw a DeBeers ad’ or ‘I saw this ad’ or ‘I’m interested in a piece of that jewelry,’ you need it.
It’s very rare that we have a problem – their quality control is phenomenal – but if we have to send a piece back to Spectrum it’s repaired, fixed or replaced within days.
Customers are more demanding. They understand style; they understand fashion; they understand value. And our customer is very sophisticated. The breadth of the Spectrum line and the quality ranges allow us to provide our clients with exactly they want – from nice ‘commercial’ merchandise to diamonds and pieces for a discerning client who says, ‘I want this color, I want this clarity.’”
